We started Chalk with a mission to be ad-free and user-centric.
Current discussion forums and social media chat groups have become convoluted with ads. Commercial needs were prioritized over user needs.
We hope Chalk is a breathe of fresh air for many of you and grow into a thriving community as your first choice discussion forum to discuss, debate and discover. The learn and teach central theme for the forum came naturally to us as well. In life, we are either learning or teaching at different stages of our lives.
Definitely! We welcome anyone who wish to engage in civilized discourse. There is a wide range of categories that cater to everything under the sun, be it on-topic or off-topic.
Chalk is ad-free, user-centric, community-based and open-source
Ad-free: We commit to an ad-free experience. Ads have become a necessity for many. Not here.
User-centric: Built with users in mind, there is a myriad of controls for creating and accessing content. The user interface is also highly customizable via personal user preferences and presented in an optimal view for the device of your choosing
Community-based: We are all about creating a thriving community. Make new friends and connect with others on topics close to your heart. As you participate in conversations and contribute to the community, you will be granted advanced member functions. Proven members who have been with us for a while can also choose to exercise basic moderator rights to keep the community healthy through self moderation.
Open-source: Based on open-source Discourse, we had the freedom to adapt the technology layer for a Singapore audience. Being open-source, the forum will be enhanced continuously as the platform improves. We hope you fall in love with the fast loading speed, modern features and intuitive UI that was designed for asynchronous written conversations.

Be civil, post responsibly, flag problems and respect each other.
Be civil: This is a public forum and search engines index these discussions, so keep the language, links, and images safe for family and friends.
Post responsibly: Spreading inaccurate or false information is incredibly irresponsible. Important information has to have credible sources, especially in this era of fake news. Doxxing, astroturfing and masquerading are prohibited. Offenders will not only go against Chalk rules, but that of the Singapore law. Be responsible or face the consequences.
Flag problems: If you see a problem, flag it. When you see bad behavior, don’t reply. It encourages the bad behavior by acknowledging it, consumes your energy, and wastes everyone’s time. Just flag it. If enough flags accrue, action will be taken automatically or by moderator intervention. With your help, moderators can be community facilitators and not the police.
Respect each other: Do not harass or grief anyone, impersonate people, or expose their private information.
Muting allows you to hide categories that do not interest you. This gives you the power to control the content you wish to see. Muted categories stay hidden at the bottom of the forum index and can be unmuted at any point in time … learn more
New users have many restrictions to protect themselves and the existing community. As new users progress into members, senior members then trusted leaders, restrictions will be removed and new abilities will be granted progressively.
In order to maintain our community, moderators reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time. Moderators do not preview new posts; the moderators and Chalk take no responsibility for any content posted by the community.
